It had been a busy day at practice but a productive one. Avery hoped they would all be ready for their next game. Hoping to take a win, maybe even this year they could have a chance at the quidditch cup. It was a long shot but if they worked hard enough maybe they could win. After changing out of her quidditch robes she was in her school robes again. She braided her hair so that it came to the side and over her shoulder. Gathering her sketchbook from her locker she made her way just outside the pitch. Despite the fact practice was a bit exhausting was no reason she could hang out and chat with her friends. She waited for Rolf to come out. Rolf was not only a great quidditch Captain but someone she could consider a friends. Though Avery was friendly to many people, especially those on the quidditch team and in Hufflepuff. As Rolf was the Captain she looked up to him a bit. Avery despite coming from a muggle family and outside of Hogwarts never had time to practice quidditch was a good player. Most times between practice she practiced in the pitch alone. Mostly trying out different maneuvers to better help her as a chaser. Avery even had hope to going professional after school. It would be hard but Avery was determined to work as hard as she possibly could to prove herself good enough. Rolf D. Scamander

| Rolf was definitely excited about this year’s team. Diggory had been gracious enough to essentially step down as captain for his final year, and Rolf had become the newest Captain. However, it was extremely overwhelming for the poor Scamander. It had been mostly a hobby before, but he was very serious about it when he accepted the new role. He just had to figure out how to balance things a bit better than he was – he had missed sleep for the last month before school had even started trying to figure out the best way to run practices. He had drills and plays that he had devised and even asked his aunt and father for advice (his father wasn’t much of a player but as an Auror, he has insight… Quidditch was a lot like a fight in a way, he just had to ignore the ‘if they disarm you, punch them’ parts of the advice).
He had a whole booklet of ideas and training regimes and he was going to try to win them the cup. The hardest parts were that there were some really gifted prodigies on the other teams – in particular the Gryffindor team. The other houses has their prodigies, but Gryffindor had the youngest seeker in a century who had rarely ever lost a match. That was why he worked on ways to specifically counter each team – each house had a different strategy they needed to do against them, but also not overwhelm his team with too many strategies. Luckily, Rolf’s slight empathic tendencies he inherited from his great aunt led him to understand people a bit better than he would without them.
As he exited the changing room, he flipped through his play booklet and began to circle a few things and make notes on things he had noticed in this practice – what seemed to work and what didn’t and then – oops. He found himself right on the ground having run right into Avery.
“Oh Merlin! I’m so sorry!” He jumped up to his feet and dusted himself off before offering Avery a hand – whether or not she fell from his bumping into her – if she hadn’t fallen it would just be a friendly handshake, if she had then it would be a hand to help her up. “Ah yes, Avery, Avery – what did you think of practice today?” Of course, she probably wanted to talk about other things too and not just practice but he just needed to know if she thought he was doing a good job or not. “Oh are you sketching again? What are you sketching today?” |

Avery certainly believed Rolf to be a great Captain. It was indeed a huge role to fill which was why she never felt the desire to be Captain. She was content enough to just play the team's chaser. And she was pretty good at it. Of course everyone could always use improvement and she was no different. Though Avery sometimes worked even harder because she never got a chance to over the summer. Not always travelling with her parents around the world.
She hadn't seen Rolf coming as she waited for him outside the tent. That was when he slammed into and fell to the ground caught off guard. "Oof..." she muttered as she fell. She looked up seeing Rolf. When he extended a hand to help her up she accepted it. She carefully brushed off her robes of dust. "It's no problem really...but from experience walking and reading is a bad idea.." she said with a kind smile and small laugh.
Though he was quick to change the subject to practice and then to her drawing. "Practice was good...I need to improve my speed but I am a little rusty. I can't practice over summer" she told him. Though she was quick to answer his other question. "Oh no I am not sketching anything right now. Earlier I worked on my Black Lake piece though. Some more minor details and shading. I just don't leave the dorm without it" she said with a nervous laugh.
