What better place to spend time with someone than in the Room of Requirement, a place that only few have stumbled upon and remembered where it was. Ares used the room quite often to get away from the masses and practice magic mostly spells that were questionable, but he didn’t care if the spells were classified as light or dark, since to him magic was magic and all about intent. Making him more grey than anything when it comes to magic as he wasn’t afraid to use both light and dark magic. He had sent a note to Daphne earlier in the day to meet him in the room of requirement. Currently he had the room set to a moonlit valley covered in snow with a river going through it. And he was standing next to the bank observing everything and waiting silently in his animagus form as an artic wolf. Daphne was one of the few people that knew about him being an animagus and wouldn’t be surprised to find him like that, especially with how the room was currently set. Daphne Greengrass

Daphne had kept the letter tucked away in her trunk in the common room after she had received it from from Ares. It wasn't uncommon for the two to pass notes back and forth sometimes multiple times a day to meet up somewhere in the day. She made her way out of the common and headed towards the Room of Requirement where the two had spent a lot of time together there more times then she could remember. The female couldn't remember the exact day that they had even discovered it but it was worth it nonetheless. She had brought nothing with her besides her wand when she had finally reached the room she made her way inside the room.
The room had been filled with snow lit up by the moonlight. The Room of Requirement was always so fascinating especially because it always appeared in something that you needed or thought of. And before she could even said anything she spotted the arctic wolf which was Ares. "This is defiantly something Ares" she said with a small before stepping through the snow leaving footprints in them. This had not been the first time she had came across Ares in his Animagus form especially since she had been in her own Animagus form around him as well. She made her way over to the wolf and looked down at him slightly.
"Should I shift or stay human?" she asked waiting to see if she had gotten a reaction out of him cause then she would know her answer. Her fox form was smaller then his wolf form but she was still able to keep up with him even in the smaller form.

Ares didn’t have to wait long for Daphne to show up. He heard her come in to the room, and the soft crunch of the snow as she made her way over to him. Ares didn’t move at first when she asked if she should shift or not. He wouldn’t mind either way, but for now he turned his head and licked her hand before he backed up and shifted back into himself. “We can shift later or now. Whichever strikes your fancy.” Ares stated as he looked at Daphne, taking a moment to admire how the moonlight seemed to enhance his best friend’s natural beauty. “Care to take a walk with me?” Ares asked offering his Daphne his arm like a gentleman would with a smile on his face. He had to tell someone what was eating at him, the thoughts that had plagued him for the last few years, since he was twelve and new that he could only trust Daphne with the information. He was happy that she was here since they had been through so much together, various adventures, helping her with her animagus transformation, etc. They were practically inseparable as kids and now as teenagers, the hung out whenever they could and for him, they were the best of times regardless of what they went through. The snowy environment put him at ease as he felt free in this environment, especially as the artic wolf. It was perfect. Aside from his mum and sister Daphne was the only one that knew him the best. Daphne looked over at Ares and couldn't help but smile. She watched as he licked her and then backed away shifting back to his human form. "That sounds fine by me, I have nothing planned so I'm always down to shift later on. Besides I highly doubt anyone would find us here anyway" she explained. The two had been friends for the longest of time and honestly she always liked to think back of when they had first met. They had lived in the same neighborhood and actually only a few houses away, but there has been a local festival and each of their families had attended and she just so happened to bump into Ares and ever since then the two were always together when they can be.
She snapped out of her thoughts quickly and gave a small nod to his question, "Well of course" she said taking his arm so the two could walk together. She took a moment to look over his body language and without him saying something was wrong or bothering him she just knew. Growing up with him she was easily able to see the difference in him even if it was something so simple. "What's going on? Don't say nothing cause I know you better then anyone" she said softly nudging him slightly as the two walked through the snow the sound of it crunching underneath their feet was the only thing heard.
The place was gorgeous and there was no denying that. She did always enjoy the snow fall of winter though the cold she could do without. Ares had chosen the perfect place to hang out. She looked over at her best friend giving him all of her attention waiting for him to tell her what was on his mind.

As they walked, Ares couldn’t help but think of how lucky he was that they had met all those years ago. He couldn’t stop the chuckle that escaped past his lips. “You are absolutely correct.” Ares agreed with Daphne. She was right, Daphne knew him better than anyone, and he knew he couldn’t just say that there was nothing wrong. Hell, he had asked her here so that he could talk to her about what was bothering him. He let out a sigh before he began. “Do you remember the summer before third year? Particularly the week we didn’t see each other?” Ares asked and gave her a moment to recall the memory. “During that week I found out from my mum who my biological father was. I only found out after I heard her crying in the middle of the night from a nightmare. Something I never thought I’d hear or see.” He had a far off look in his eye as he recalled the memory, while trusting that Daphne would make sure he didn’t trip or walk into something. “It has been eating at me for quite some time. She eventually told me what her nightmare had been about, after I had gotten her to calm down that is. My mum used to be engaged to Sirius Black, but that all came crashing down one night, When Sirius’ brother, Regulus, had used polyjuice to look like Sirius and had ended up raping my mum, and just as he was shifting back into himself the real Sirius had walked into the room. A fight ensued and then for who knows what ever reason Sirius ended his relationship with my mum, leaving her all alone and with a baby on the way.” Ares said all of that in a flat tone trying to control his temper. Just thinking and talking about it made him angry, wanting to go find the Black brothers and vent his anger. “I needed that week to help my mum. She was a mess and I was able to convince her to go see a psychologist about it, to help her work through the issue. I had never seen my mum look so weak and afraid.” Ares had been full of hate but he knew that he needed to be there for his mum. She was always so strong and she taught him anything that he wanted to know about. “If I am honest with myself, I am glad that I look like a McKinnon and nothing like a Black. I’ve got all this hatred for both Regulus and Sirius; I just don’t know what to do with it. Obviously, I hat Regulus the most. If I come across him, I might do something that I won’t regret but it might get me thrown in Azkaban, but he deserves to suffer.” Ares hoped that Daphne wouldn’t leave him for what he had just shared about wanting to go make his biological father suffer. The only reason why he hadn’t done anything to the man was because he knew he couldn’t leave his mum and sister, but he also couldn’t leave Daphne. Just the thought of leaving her hurt so much that he wouldn’t do anything that would jeopardize what he had with her. Daphne Greengrass

Daphne looked at Ares and gave a small smile when she heard his chuckle. She couldn't help but adore him especially when the two always found something to laugh at. She was glad that she could be there for him just like he was there for her if she ever needed it. When he finally started to speak about what had him thinking a lot in she decided to take in every word before she spoke up. She had remembered the week that Ares hadn't hung out. It had felt like the days had been going so slow cause she didn't have her best friend by her side. Come to think of it that was one of the only times that the two had been separated for more then a day. "I remember that week and I completely understand. I don't blame you for being by your families side especially your mother. That is never something easy to go through and then finding out the way you did isn't easy either." she said stopping in the snow and moving to stand in front of Ares now. "I'm glad that you were able to hep your mother through all of that and I'm glad you told me. I don't hate you for any of it if that's what your thinking. And I know you want to hate him but please don't do anything that might end you up in Azkaban because I can't go through not having you by my side. One week was already enough to handle "she said softly. She moved her hand to rest it on his arm slightly. "I'm here for you always Ares and you know that. Even if you just need to vent or anything. Find me or send me a message and I will be by your side in no time" Daphne said. She couldn't hate him for what he said because she had grown up in a Pure-blood family where they always tried to make the muggles and muggle-born's seem worthless compared to any other Wizarding family. She had never agreed with those, and knew that you never had a choice in who your family was by blood but she also knew there was no way they could change it. But it was how they lived there life to move on from it or try ton even if it isn't easy. @kamckinnon

Ares really hoped he hadn’t messed anything up between them, but he was proven wrong right away when Daphne stopped walking and stood in front of him. He was momentarily distracted as he got caught up looking and admiring how beautiful Daphne looked. Everything that she said made quite a lot of sense. It was like she was in his head, but he knew she wasn’t but she knew him so well that she would never have to resort to using a spell to find out what he was thinking. He was deeply touched when she said that she was there for him. He knew that already but hearing her say that always helped reaffirm that. “I knew talking to you would help.” Ares commented, he couldn’t imagine life without her either. “I promise I won’t do anything but I can’t help but hate him.” Ares glanced down briefly as Daphne placed her hand on his arm. He closed the distance between them and pulled Daphne into a light embrace. “I’ll never leave you. Unless I absolutely have to.” He said quietly into her ear as he held her. “You know that. During that time, even though I was with my family I felt alone.” Ares confessed, as he truly had felt alone as he didn’t really have anyone that he could turn to help him figure it all out and what he should do. “I didn’t feel normal until I was able to see you again.” He had no idea why he was telling her this since she probably already knew. “Thank you for meeting me and listening to me. I just had to tell someone.” Ares said as he let Daphne go and took her hand in his and began walking again, and hoped she didn't mind. Daphne Greengrass

Daphne looked at Ares and smiled softly. She was glad that he had come to her to talk, she had always been there so if he needed to talk to she would listen to him. If he even needed to vent she would be there to always support him no matter what. "I'm glad that you came to talk to me. Hating him is always an option and no one could hate you for that. But that doesn't mean try anything drastic that can land you in too much trouble." the female said softly. As Ares pulled her into an embrace Daphne returned the hug, "I would hope you wouldn't leave me. I can imagine my life without you in it. The majority of my life had you in it and I wouldn't change that for the world" she said. "I felt lost not having you there either. The week dragged on and felt endless without you" she added softly with a smile. As the two started to walk again and he took her hand she couldn't keep a smile off her face. She had made no movement to pull away and followed him back through the snow once more. She allowed her thoughts to drift for a moment thinking about all the times after she got out of class her first instinct was to find Ares, when it came to studying she preferred studying with him compared to others. They may not have been in the same house but the two always found time to hang out with each other. Even trips to Hogsmeade they always with each other.

Ares knew that he had done the right thing talking with the one person who would always be there when he needed her, and she was the only one he knew he could trust completely aside from his family. As they walked Ares was having an internal debate with himself, if he should tell her how he really felt about her, part of him wanted to and yet the other part of him wasn’t sure that it was a good idea at the moment. If he was honest with himself Ares was afraid that she wouldn’t feel the same about him as he feels about her and that there was a chance that their friendship would fall apart and that he would no longer have her in his life. Even though he had seen and talked with her earlier in the day it felt like he hadn’t seen her in days. It was a weird feeling but one that he was all to familiar with, but he had gotten used to the feeling, but today it just come out of nowhere which is why he had asked her to meet him. Not just so he could talk to her about what was bothering him, but to simply spend time with her. “Any idea of what you want to do after school?” He asked a question, and it was one that he had asked only once before but at the time the answer that he had gotten was that she wasn’t sure, and he knew for a fact that even now he still wasn’t sure what he wanted to do once they graduated.
