There are always days where one needs to be alone to clear their mind and today was such a day for Ares. He had made his way out of the castle and traversed the sprawling lawns of the school. He had made his way out to one of his favorite spots on the far side of the Black Lake. Ares had found this spot a long time ago, late at night, and in his opinion, it was the best spot with a perfect view of the castle and the valley surrounding the school. Sure, he was in his sixth year and had quite a load to handle, what with school, quidditch and other things.
But being out here sitting on an out cropping over the lake that was at least 10 maybe 12 meters above the water offered some of the best views, granted he had dove off this out cropping multiple times both as himself and in his animagus form. Granted the later was during the night time as he didn’t feel like letting too many people, especially other students know that he was an animagus. As he sat here reminiscing about the time, he had jumped in his animagus form, Ares couldn’t help but laugh as he was sure that his expression had been comical since he had no control of how he would hit the water, and it definitely hurt, since he forgot that he could change back.

Peter was glad to be back at Hogwarts. Not that he didn't love his home back in Bramhope, but this place was different. Sirius had always told him about Hogwarts as a child, but those stories had been told during his visits. Now, Melanie had a new man and though he was nice, it was annoying. It was like Sirius was being replaced and though he loved that his mom seemed happier, it just wasn't something he was ready for.
As he pulled himself from his thoughts, he groaned when he realized that he was good and lost. The one thing was that he could still see part of the castle, but which small trail had he taken to get to this area of the lake. One wrong turn and he would be in the forbidden forest and likely end up serving detention. Rubbing the back of his neck, he just kept walking and soon saw the water from the lake. If he stayed near the lake, maybe he wouldn't get too lost.
Just as he was about to get to the edge, he suddenly felt his foot catch on something and his body landed with a thump on the ground, his cheek plastered to the ground and his heart thumping against his chest and the ground. As he groaned and opened his eyes, he found himself staring at an older ravenclaw, one that he knew to be McKinnon, only because of the years they played against each other.
"Nice day, huh?" He said through a groan as he lifted himself up and rubbed his chest lightly. Glancing over his shoulder, he quickly saw that it was a vine that had managed to tangle his feet up.

Ares was enjoying the peace and quiet until he heard someone coming down a nearby path but he wasn’t too concerned about it, he just hoped that whomever it was would keep on walking but his hopes were dashed upon the sound of the person falling. He turned to look and see who it was when the person asked him about the weather of all things. “Might want to watch where you are going Black. I mean you aren’t the most skilled person on the pitch but at least there you manage to dodge a bludger every now and then.” Ares knew the boy from quidditch but he wasn’t too concerned about that fact, no his issue was the fact that the kid was also a Black. The one family that he disliked and with a couple of members that he hated namely both of their fathers.
“To think that a lowly ground hugging vine could bring you down, maybe we’ll use that in our next match against you.” He commented off handedly as he turned his attention back to the view over the lake. It wasn’t that he disliked the kid but in part he did. Ares knew that he shouldn’t blame the kid for the things that the Blacks had done but he found it quite difficult to do so.
“And what brings you out here on this nice day as you put it?” He asked, not really wanting to prolong the interaction but figured that at least he would try and be civil towards the boy that was basically his cousin.

Of all the people he could embarrass himself in front of, it was Ares McKinnon. Rolling over slightly he rubbed his chest where it had landed on the ground and he searched for the culprit that had stabbed into the middle of his chest. Once he found the sharp stone, he gave it a quick toss towards the lake and continued to rub the spot for a moment before looking over at Ares as he spoke.
"My land leg just aren't as good as my flying skills," he said in a joking tone, his brain mentally going across the rest of his own body. Did he feel any other pain? So far, he didn't, though he did remember the vine that had caught his foot and he reached down to untangle it. Peter chuckled at his comment and looked up with a bit of a amused glint in his eyes. "Yeah, I'll be in trouble all right... Bet the herbology professor can get you some good vines for the next match." The fact that Peter found the whole thing a bit amusing and embarrassing was likely not what most guys his age would expect.
He pushed himself up slowly, his thought on anything hurt before he settled back on the ground in a sitting position. He wasn't planning on sticking around, but at the moment, his chest was still a little sore from the impact and he was finally starting to breathe a little easier. At the question, he looked out over the lake towards the castle and then back at Area.
"Just enjoying the day while I can... It's nice to be back at Hogwarts, so I wanted to relish the moment before the true craziness of classes started... But, I got a little turned around on a trail," he said as he checked his ankle that had snagged on the vine and pressed on it a little. It didn't feel tender, so that was a plus.

Ares didn’t really care about the vine thing, and in his opinion, he didn’t need to cheat to win or play his best when it came to quidditch. He trusted his team but there was always some good competition to be found amongst the teams here. “It’d be easy to get the vines too, I’d just have to get in greenhouse seven where the more dangerous plants are.” He definitely knew which ones he would grab if he were to do something so underhandedly as that during a match, but for other purposes sure.
Peter did have a point it was a nice day and definitely one to enjoy. “Most classes are pretty easy as long as you stay ahead of the game.” Ares stated when he had gotten an answer. Or like Ares one could always study ahead and also learn things that would never be taught in the confines of the school. He had aims to be an auror or hit wizard. But that was still up in the air as far as he was concerned.
He let out a sigh as he had decided that he would be indifferent towards his cousin and at least civil unless the younger boy gave him reason not to be. “Well, if you want to head back to the castle then you can always jump and make a swim for it.” He suggested as that was the most direct route to the castle. “Or you go back down the path through the trees behind us.” As he said that Ares pointed to the woods of the forbidden forest behind him, and still not turning to face his cousin. “Mind you I’d stick to the path as the centaurs and other beasts of the forest don’t like students wandering around where they shouldn’t.” What he left out was the fact that he didn’t have that problem and was given free reign to roam where he wanted within the forest which he mostly did in his animagus form.
Ares reluctantly decided to add one last option. “Or you can stay and enjoy the view and I’ll lead you back to the castle myself when I feel like heading back.” In all honesty he planned on staying out here all day but if his cousin stayed then eventually, he would have to head back to the castle.

Peter couldn't help but chuckle at the mention of greenhouse seven. He had heard about that greenhouse the year before and he had made extra mental notes to stay away from that place. Herbology just wasn't something he was into, but he did what he needed to for class and class only. "I'll have to keep my eyes out for you," Peter said in a joking tone before looking out over the lake.
The idea of getting back into classes hadn't been that exciting when he thought about his summer ending, but he did miss his friends and now he was getting to see them. Hanging out with his group was great. He had seen Harry a few times over the summer, so that was normal for him. He hadn't seen or heard from Ares or his sister at all over the summer, which did bum him out. Sophia was a good person and always friendly. He really needed to write more people during summer vacation. "Thanks... I need to get into better study habits... Mum keeps saying that soon I will really need them," he said casually before letting out a sigh at the memory of leaving his mother at the station.
Well, at least she wasn't alone anymore, right? The thought made him swallow and look down at the ground. A family of three now? Was that what he was looking at towards the future? The thought didn't exactly sit well with him, but he didn't have much of a say about that. It was his mother, she could make her own choices and he had to watch from the side and hope it was the right now. His dad had said it was going to be fine, but Peter still didn't have much hope.
Glancing over his shoulder at the mentioned trail, he had to admit, he was trying to get back to the castle, but he still felt a little sore. But, Ares wasn't all to thrilled about him even being here. He wasn't being mean or rude, but Peter could feel the slight tension. Maybe it was best if he moved on for now. They could see each other in the halls later. "Yeah, I think I might..." He offered the boy his hand for a hand-shake. "See ya around?" He asked before he stood and headed towards the trail, being careful to avoid that vine that had tripped him originally.
