For Elian, getting in trouble with a professor meant he would get greater punishment from his parents – in particular his father. Elian felt the need to live up to the high expectations he thought his father held for him. Whether his father actually held them or not didn’t matter – Elian believed he did. Thus, he put a lot of pressure on himself to succeed and be a good boy. The professors had rarely ever had to punish Elian and when they did it was usually because someone else instigated the situation.
However, in this case, if a professor caught him, he would have no excuse – after all the Forbidden Forest was forbidden for a reason. It was still the best place he could practice on… certain things without anyone else getting in the way. However, it wasn’t like he was going to practice the Unforgivable Curses – that could get him expelled even if it were not on a living thing. He’d only cast one of them before and could never bring himself to use the other two – and he was practicing on a tree. As if he could really tell if it worked or not, but the imperious curse wasn’t exactly harmful if it was used in a non-harmful way.
No, he was practicing with some curses he read in his father’s potions books – some of which could be considered magic of a darker sort. He didn’t want to be caught off guard if someone decided to try to attack him – though right now the most he felt someone could ever try to do is rob him. The world was fairly peaceful despite the ministry making a talking point out of something so terribly stupid.
“Sectumsempra!” Elian said, pointing his wand at the nearest tree. He wasn’t too terribly deep but anyone on the edge of the forest probably wouldn’t see much – maybe a flash of light as the curse hit the tree and left gashes on it. If his father found out, well he probably would be in trouble for going through his potions books without his permission.

When he spotted a rabbit hop by he swallowed before shaking his head – no, he never used any living being to practice on. He wasn’t going to cause harm to something innocent. He was a jerk, not evil.
"Diffindo!" He was going to compare the results, but they weren't even close. The curse was so much deeper, but less accurate. Perhaps it was due to emotions - if he calmed down a bit more, it may be more accurate and not quite so all over the place. It was hard to do that when he was worried about getting caught. But it wasn't like he could do this in the school without being caught.
