The first day of class was here finally, the last of his first days at Hogwarts. It was a little bit bittersweet, but he was looking forward to graduating and getting a start on his life. He planned to be a potions master who would be hired to make different potions for different people. Maybe even things for the ministry when they needed some potion help. He was doing great in his potions class, but that was mostly because he was focusing on that subject most of all. He enjoyed it, but sometimes he felt he overworked himself. Regardless, he had a free first period, but still arrived at the Great Hall early enough he could eat and get to a first period class with plenty of time. Force of habit, he supposed. It was better to get up early anyways – once school was out, he would have to do that for a job. Probably. Elian sat at his table and poked at his eggs and bacon. Last night they had the sorting ceremony and a huge feast, so he was still a little full from that. He looked around the great hall as people trickled in and filled the hall with kids of all ages getting ready for the rest of the day. tag: @open

"Aye, I had a great summer... My ma and da held a Cèilidh for the whole community when I arrived home, I wish ye could of come," Lindsey said to the Hufflepuff girl as they walked along the aisle that went between the tables. The hufflepuff was a blonde brightly at Lindsey as they neared the middle of the Slytherin table. "See ye in class?" The hufflepuff nodded before she headed over to the table across the room.
Lindsey took her place at the table and grabbed the nearest plate. She smiled when she took a look at everything, grabbing some eggs, sausage and a roll. It looked amazing and she felt her stomach growl. Getting back together with the girls in her dorm had been amazing and they had spent the night catching up. As she looked up the table, she quickly saw Elian Snape and she let out a silent sigh before smiling.
"Good Mornin', Elian... Did ye have a good summer?" She said in her thick highland accent with a smile.

When he heard that accent, he sighed. There were few people with such a thick accent here – well at least that he noticed. Then again, he wasn’t one to really pay attention to that. However, when it came to this particular person, he couldn’t help but pay attention. She was highly annoying and tried to socialize with him often. Sure, his mother probably would tell him she was just trying to be nice to him, but if that was the case, then she’d just leave him alone. Lestrange probably would say she had a crush on him. And that was far from the case, at least in Elian’s view. “What do you want?” He asked brusquely a noticeable frown on his face and a wrinkle in his forehead. The problem was, he did not like people. In general. Some would call him a jerk. Other would use more colorful language. That was probably true. Yet, Elian felt he was just being selective with those he called friends. Seeing the effect on his father of a friend leaving him (albeit Elian would probably call his father out and say it was his fault for that), Elian didn’t want to just have anyone be a friend. He had to truly trust them. And even then, he expected some sort of betrayal. It was just a protection mechanism. Wasn’t like he expected Lestrange or his rival to betray him in any large sort of way – he was just prepared just in case. It would not be the end of the world for him at least. tag: @lindsey

Elian Snape and Lindsey had never really seen eye to eye, but she always put on a good face. It was possible he hated her, but that was a strong word and so she didn't want to say he did, but she clearly knew that she was an annoyance to him. But, that wasn't going to change what she did. No, she was a good person and she was going to be nice, especially since they were not sitting near each other at breakfast. At his question, she glanced over at him and placed a smile on her face. Maybe as a young year, she did have a slight crush on him...
He was rather handsome... But, that had slowly just floated away each time he was cruel. It was sad, she thought he would be a good friend, if he would stop acting like his father. Maybe the Professor was a cold man at home too?
"I was askin' about ye summer, Elian, that is all... Was it a good one?" She asked again, looking at a piece of toast she was now putting some butter on before she looked back over at him. "Did ye do anything exciting or fun?" She asked in her friendly, kind nature. The smile on her face was big, her teeth showing as she waited for him to answer.

Oh, he did plenty of things over the summer. He went to London with his mother, and they had a fun day trip together. His father invented a couple of new potions that he taught him. He even experienced a muggle theme park for the first time this last summer. But was he going to tell her about any of that? Absolutely not. It would only encourage her to talk to him more. That bubbly kindness was grating – even if he might possibly have a huge crush on a Hufflepuff girl with a bubbly kindness too. Her eyes. Her smile… That wasn’t the point! His eyes had lost focus for a moment when he thought of the crush he had, as if he was lost thinking about her. Bad Elian. Bad. He cleared his throat as his mind came back to the present and he looked away, a very slight blush on his face from his thoughts. “That doesn’t answer my question, Bryce.” He huffed and took a drink of his water, “Why do you care what I did?” He glanced to the side and then back at her. “To answer your question, no. And for your information, I wouldn’t tell you even if I did have a good summer.” tag: @lindsey

Lindsey was getting herself ready to eat. She quickly grabbed a goblet and automatically, it filled with her favorite juice, which was orange juice. Taking a sip, she smiled at the lovely taste before she looked over at him. It was hard to read him, but that didn't matter to her, she still smiled at him when he finally did clear his throat to speak. Oh, maybe she would get something out of him this time?
At his question, she tilted her head and thought about it for a moment while he sat there.
"Oh, I was just curious... First day back... Your last first day at Hogwarts... Your last summer between school years... It had to be excitin', I thought I would be kind and ask ye," She said in her thick accent, smiling at him with her bright blue eyes as she what for whatever else he had to say. As he told her he wouldn't have told her anyway, she let out a sigh and she looked at her play, the smile still on her lips as she took a bite of her food. For a moment, she was quiet, didn't say anything. Though her happy attitude didn't seem to leave her face, she was just eating for a moment before she spoke again.
"Well, if ye did have a good summer, I'm glad... If ye didn't, I'm sorry," She said as she finally looked over at him, wiping the corners of her mouth with a napkin before she picked up her fork again. "Happy for this to be ye're last year, though?" If he thought she was going to end the conversation, he was wrong. She could play this game all day.

There was a very quiet, but audible groan when that wasn’t the end of it. Great. Alright then. She was here to stay at least for a little while. He needed to stop getting annoyed at every little thing. He bet she was doing this on purpose. It wasn’t like he hated her either. It was just that he didn’t want to talk to her. Because she was bubbly and annoying and very much not like the other Slytherins. They didn’t even have classes together but because they shared the same house he had to deal with her often enough. Why would anyone care what his summer was like unless they were his friend and actually cared about his feelings? No, she was just doing this to be ‘nice’. It was fake. At least he thought it was. “Curiosity killed the cat.” He grunted a bit as he took another sip of his water and salted his eggs a little bit before taking a bite of the scrambled glorious goodness. He missed this food – and he was going to miss it too after this year. Happy? Yes. Sad? Also yes. She obviously didn’t understand how anyone could feel about leaving this school. It was probably because she lived in one of those idiotic mixed communities he had heard about. Ah yes, wonderful she could go back and not hide that she was magical. Him? He walks out of his house and he has to keep things secret else some muggle would walk by and see him. It wasn’t like he was raised to fear his magic – he was raised to love it. But his father had some opinions when it came to muggles and Elian knew it was his grandfather’s fault. “You’re a simpleton. It makes sense given where you come from. Emotions are never as simple as happy or sad or angry. When people say that Hogwarts is their home, they aren’t kidding. Even if they have a loving family. We spend the majority of the year here. This is where we’re raised. And to leave… Well at least I won’t have to see you ever again.” tag: @lindsey

Lindsey looked over at him when he groaned and she found herself just pleasantly smiling. It was just in her nature to be happy, to be positive about things. It was how her mother and father had raised her. The community she lived in was accepting and nice, she did miss it when she was here, but then when she was home, she also missed here. At his comment about cats and curiosity, she chuckled lightly in amusement.
"Aye, it did... My ma says that quite often to me," she said as she grabbed some fruit jam and smeared some on a piece of a scone. It tasted divine and she found herself savoring it for a moment. Closing her eyes, she smiled at the warmth of the scone and the sweetness of the jam. Her mother had made some homemade before she had left, but it hadn't been ready to use. They would be enjoying in soon enough without her. Maybe she would send her a jar? She would have to write and see.
Then, Elian spoke again and this time it was a lot more than she had expected, but she listened none the less to it. How was she a simpleton? She was well aware of different emotions, she understood that things weren't simple. She was being nice and he was now being rude. As he finished, she placed her fork down and dabbed her lips with the napkin. She was quiet for a moment and then her blue eyes cut up to him.
"Well, ye never ken where life might take ye, Elian... We might meet again in the future after ye're years at Hogwarts, so dinna get ye're hopes up too much," she said with a smile before she glanced up and waved at a fellow fifth year that had called her name. It was nice to see old faces and she was glad to be back at the school. Glancing up at the ceiling, she searched for the morning owls, but they had yet to arrive.

Great. She was smiling now. Pleasantness to him was like the sun to vampires. Well, it didn’t kill him, but he disliked it greatly. What was her deal? Why was he so annoyed at her? He could just get up and leave – but that would mean she wins. And he was never going to let that happen. She would leave before the day was over. He would make sure of it. “I’d quit a job before working with you.” His life would be miserable if his occupation forced him to cooperate with her. From what he knew, she was planning on going into healing – which was perfect for an annoying brat like her. He looked away from her blue eyes, something about them were just grating on him. Perhaps it was her optimism. Or rather cynicism if she was looking forward to working with him after everything, he had put her through. Why would she still be here? Psychologically one shouldn’t stick around when someone is a jerk to them. “Blood traitors like your mother always give rise to people like you. You’re naïve and idiotic. Mudblood lovers like you shouldn’t be allowed to attend Hogwarts like the abominations you love.”tag: @lindsey

Lindsey kept a small smile on her lips as she worked on her breakfast, looking up a few other people as they passed her and said their own 'hello'. Lindsey was not one who steered clear of other houses. No, she was very much an outgoing person. The energy from the cèilidh a few nights ago was still coursing through her veins, she could feel it. It normally gave her a wonderful feeling for days after. The laughter, the games, the dancing... It was like a high she never wanted to come off of.
At his mention about quitting work, she gave him an amused look and shrugged her shoulders.
"Well, I would have enjoyed workin' with ye... Ye are, after all, so very nice," she said with a hint of amusement in her tone. It was a little poking and prodding that she might have been enjoying a little. When was he ever going to realize that she was just trying to be friendly. For five years, he had been like this. It was like this was his only mood.
At the mention of her mother, she stopped mid-drink and looked over at him before placing her goblet down. This time, a bit of fire seemed to light in those blue eyes. The smile never wavered from her face, but a stern look seemed to come over her features. She had not flinched at his words, because she had heard them before. To be honest, she was quite proud of her whole family. Not many of the MacKenzie were pure-elitist, especially those that had come from the area of Draoidheil. They had served alongside the muggles for centuries, fought beside them in wars and with the Bonnie Prince that had sailed from France.
"Now, ye listen 'ere, ye're welcome to insult myself and who I am... But ye keep my mother out of it," she said with a voice of stone. "But my mother was not the original 'blood traitor' in the family," she explained as she lifted her fingers to make the quote marks. Her voice had returned to the same kind tone and her smile at been replaced fully. "That would be one of my ancestors from before the time of the Jacobite risings."

He rolled his eyes at her sarcasm and quickly took a bite of his eggs. He was like his eggs – a little bit salty. Perhaps that was due to the fact he couldn’t believe someone like her could ever be a Slytherin. If the hat got it wrong once in the thousand or so years Hogwarts had been around, it was with her. After all, it had to be wrong sometime, even with magic – it was sentient, and they sorted when they were 11-year-olds. People change and honestly a lot of people didn’t belong in their houses anymore. Not him. He was a Slytherin through and through. He was ambitious, could be a leader when he wanted to be, and resourceful. He’d do anything to get his way… unlike a certain girl sitting next to him. A grin spread on his face when she stopped mid-drink to look at him. Perfect. He was about to get the rise out of her he wanted. All it took was using a couple of slurs and insulting her parents, specifically her mother. It wasn’t like Elian actually cared all that much about blood status, but a lot of people did and it was an easy way to get a rise out of anyone. However, the indications of anger or annoyance faded from her lips quickly and Elian grimaced at that. Perhaps his words were starting to get stale. “It doesn’t matter who the original blood traitor is, Bryce,” Elian shook his head and chuckled mirthfully, “Just look at the Weasleys. Their parents are blood traitors and so are the ones going to this school. Past traitors do not lesson the crime for those who do the same thing today. Your mother is a blood traitor, and so are you. Though judging from how stupid of a daughter she raised, she mustn’t have much of a brain, so you can’t blame her for it. It’s just in your, and her, nature.”tag: @lindsey
