Harry had turned 15 only a few weeks ago and soon he was going to enter his fifth year at Hogwarts. It took some convincing but he was able to convince his parents to let him get his supplies mostly on his own. And so here he was, alone in Diagon Alley for the first time since his career at Hogwarts began. His parents weren't far away and were ready to bring him back home, but at least he had some independence.
With money enough for supplies and a bit left over, Harry's first stop was Zonko's Diagon Alley branch. Yes, he probably should work on getting his books first, but the lure of some of the new products he had heard about were just too tempting. There were crackers much like the ones at Christmas that apparently would singe one's eyebrows if they popped it - and while it was early for that, Harry was always one for a laugh. Even if it was a long time before it could be cracked.
Harry pushed the door open and was immediately met with a firework in his face, causing him to jump - but then again it was Zonko's he should expect something like that. A shopkeeper approached and began to pitch all sorts of things - the firework was a new item, an alarm of a sort. No one could enter a room without getting a firework in their face. It made a loud sound so it would alert anyone that an intruder was there - as well as deliver a scare. Harry bought a couple of course. With that out of the way, he began to peruse the rest of the shelves, slowly gathering up some fun items.

It was a typical day for Ares near the beginning of the school year, and where else would you find a student buying their supplies, Diagon Alley of course. He had gotten all of the things that he needed, having spent more time in Gringotts than any other place today. Apparently, the goblins wanted to discuss somethings with him. He had been aimlessly wandering around since that meeting, talking with people that greeted him. He hadn’t seen any of his close friends in the Alley , but he did see a familiar group of people, ones he knew sort of, the Potters. He knew Lily Potter as his mum was still friends with her, and he recognized James, someone that he didn’t really want to get to know. And then there was Harry, with his mop of hair going into Zonko’s….alone.
Ares followed his sort of friend into the shop. Sort of friend explained their friendship, as they had gone on some rather interesting adventures together, such as going into the forbidden forest, running into the centaurs was interesting. Aside from those adventures Ares kept his distance as he knew that they Potters were close with the Blacks, and he couldn’t trust the Blacks at all.
He quickly spotted Harry browsing the shelves picking up an item here and there. Ares himself found that pranking has its place but you should never get products for a prank until just before you pull it off that way you don’t rouse suspicion. Ares walked up to the shorter boy “I hope you aren’t planning on letting your mother see everything you’ve bought with your spare change Potter.” He said right next to Harry in slightly raised voice in order to be heard clearly over the many different noises going off in the shop as well as the din of other patrons talking.

Harry had just picked up a cool firework that would be loads of fun to use against some people when Ares approached right next to him and spoke. He jumped slightly as if he was a kid caught with his hand in a cookie jar. He blinked a couple times before chuckling.
“Well I mean – you know, it’s not like I want to get in trouble with her,” He slowly put the firework away shrugged his shoulders, “I mean honestly, she should expect it at this point, you’d think. Though I did promise that I’d get my supplies before anything extraneous…” He looked at his mostly empty bag. “I know how to use math though, I’ll still be safe if I watch myself.”
He looked at the older male and smiled a bit. “Fancy meeting you here, though. I thought you preferred not to stock up long before using it. What brings you here?”

Ares couldn’t help himself but to chuckle at Harry’s response. “Wait you know how to do math?” He asked in an exaggerated manner and a tone of surprise. A little ribbing never hurt anyone…much. Harry wasn’t wrong though in his assessment of Ares being in the joke shop. It was after all a little out of the ordinary for him to be here, plus the owner wasn’t too keen on Ares as he had threatened the man by telling him he’d go to a different vendor if the man didn’t drop his prices. Not that it mattered much as he reached out to shops all around the world for his supplies, a lot harder to track, and they all had different things to offer.
“I just came in here to piss off the owner.” Ares said in a jovial tone and a slightly raised voice and gave the owner who was behind the counter a cheeky wave, making the man turn red in anger. “Granted that wasn’t the only reason as I had to see what you were getting.” He answered in a quieter tone. “Just let the owner know that you’re my friend and you should be able to get whatever you want at a two for one rate.” It wasn't a bad thing sure the man was losing money but that is what happens when you try and swindle a person such as Ares who had learned from the best on how to deal with people, said person was his mum. She taught him everything that she could to make sure that he would become the best person that he could be.

Harry snorted at Ares’s joke. He knew that Ares was joking, and to be honest, Harry didn’t put off the air of being a very smart person. He was average. At least he believed he was average when it came to those sorts of things… then again Hogwarts didn’t really teach math. However, his mom was a big supporter of learning a lot of various things that Hogwarts lacked, which included math, analyzing books and writing about various things… things she learned in primary school at a muggle school. Luckily he managed to get away with being homeschooled as he didn’t want to go to the muggle schools. It wasn’t because he disliked muggles or anything – but he wasn’t exactly the most outgoing person and some people thought he looked funny. Sure, he was a bit of a dork, and magic couldn’t seem to correct his vision… but he liked his messy hair. He just wanted to avoid being teased by other kids – kids could be mean. Like Draco.
Man, his thoughts were all over the place. He took a breath in to calm his thoughts before rolling his eyes at Ares’s comments. “Well you can see what I’ve got – and I’m sure you can figure out what I’m planning. The Slytherin Common Room is going to be painted bright pink and the fireworks will make it quite loud. I’ll just have to get Romola to tell me the password.” Harry grinned and looked over at the owner before giving him a shy wave at the reddened man. Oh man, while he loved to prank people and get a kick out of it, he didn’t exactly care much about the money. Sure, his parents taught him to value money, but at the same time… he didn’t want them to go out of business. Eh, he was probably overreacting, the guy got a lot of business and a couple of idiots like them couldn’t put them out of business.
“I appreciate that. I’ll make sure to paint your name with mine on the walls of the common room.” Harry gave Ares a wink and a hearty laugh. “I’m sure Snape won’t mind putting both of us in detention for it.”

“Bright pink might be a bit ostentatious.” Ares commented. “But it will do, and if you do it just right you should turn their robes neon orange. Although I think Daphne might kill you if it in anyway affects her. Granted plastering our names all over the walls wouldn’t be a good idea.” He shook his head at the Gryffindor. “You need to use your cunning, or did your mum and dad not instill any of that in you? Rule one of pranking is never get caught.” Ares knew how to prank people granted his pranks were always well thought out and planned to perfection, well almost perfection. Sometimes the pranks didn’t always work, but as the say goes ‘you miss a hundred of the shots that you don’t take.’ Try and try again until you succeed. “Anytime. And Snape won’t give me detention, because I won’t serve it just like the last time he had tried to give me detention for something that was definitely not my handiwork.” Ares actually had a decent relationship with Snape. Sure, they weren’t friends, but Ares had proven to rather adept at potions even though he didn’t particularly enjoy it. But knowing how to make potions as well being able to tell the difference between potions and poisons was always useful. Ares preferred the more practical subjects such as Charms, Transfiguration, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. As well as some other things that he learned on his own and that his mum had taught him. “Plus, if you get caught then we’ll all be treated to another spectacle during breakfast like when your mum sent that howler and admonished you in front of the entire school.” Ares laughed at the memory of the time that Harry had been caught and got a howler.
